Breaking Down My Launch Experience

I’m going to be honest with you: my first project in the 0 to 1K Month Challenge didn’t exactly blow up. I launched Flora Supply, put in hours of work, and sure, people visited, but turning those visits into paying customers? That's the hard part. And boy, did I learn a lot about launching and selling a product!

In this article, I’m breaking down what went wrong, what I learned, and where I’m heading next. If you’re trying to get to $1k a month like me, there’s a lot that nobody tells you about what it actually takes, and that’s exactly what I’m here to share with you!

Flora Supply: The Launch

So, Flora Supply was my first project in this challenge. It allowed users to access pre-built Daisy UI and Tailwind components for their Next.js apps. A lot of people visited the site, but I didn’t have anyone actually turn into a paying customer. Here are some reasons I believe why, along with the lessons I’ll be taking from this experience:

Key Takeaways from Flora Supply

  1. Without Marketing, You're Invisible: While I was focused on the actual product development, I totally neglected the marketing push. Engaging with people on Twitter (or X, as it’s called now) and posting video updates on YouTube was something I needed to prioritize. The moment I began marketing properly, my visitor stats improved significantly.
  2. Numbers Don’t Lie: After launching the product, we had a total of 99 visitors to our landing page. Out of those, 12 people signed up for the free plan. One person even considered upgrading to the Pro Plan but canceled at the last minute. So yeah, not ideal.
  3. Scalability is Crucial: The growth relies entirely on me personally adding new components, which limits scalability. If we’d initially incorporated AI features, similar to what tools like Versel V0 offer, I believe the appeal would have been greater. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to implement that, which was a setback.

Looking Ahead: What’s Next?

For my next project, I’m planning to shift gears. Instead of building a static product where my involvement is essential, I want to explore services. Things like data analysis, image generation, or automated tasks have great potential!

In 2024, automation is going to be a hot trend, and I'm excited to dive into it. One idea that’s been buzzing in my mind is creating an automatic thumbnail generator. I spend too much time crafting thumbnails whenever I post a video; automating that would streamline my workflow significantly!

The Power of Everyday Problems

Another realization I had is that some of the best ideas come from annoyances or problems we face daily. Take emojis for example—I find it frustrating to click on the emoji button on Twitter when composing a tweet. So, I decided to build a Chrome extension that allows me to use inline emojis just like in Discord!

This extension is open-sourced on my GitHub, so feel free to edit the code, add your own emojis, or make any updates via a pull request!

The Real Journey

This challenge isn’t about hitting $1k overnight. I know that's not going to happen. It’s about the journey itself, learning what works and what doesn’t, and then sharing those insights with you. Flora Supply was just the starting point—a test run, really. Now I’m keen on making my next project even better and more scalable! So stay tuned for more projects and updates on what it takes to build something from scratch.

Remember, I also have a Discord server called The Landing Pad, where you can join for free and engage with fellow online entrepreneurs. You might have questions they have answers to, and vice versa!
