Tell-All on Dodgers' World Series w/ Mookie, Freddie Freeman, Walker Buehler, More | On Base, Ep 33
Hey everyone! It's Mookie Betts here, and what a special day it is! As a proud 2024 World Series Champion, I've been celebrating all day long. We kicked off our celebration with a parade this morning, which was a blast, and now I'm having some of the boys over to chat about our amazing postseason run. We'll dive into our biggest moments, share some hilarious anecdotes, and give you a unique insider perspective on everything from our intense series with the Padres to memorable highlights from the World Series. So, let’s get into it!
Reliving the Moments
Welcome back to another episode of On Base with Mookie! I'm incredibly grateful to have my teammates here as we reminisce about the exhilarating ride we shared this postseason.
- Walker Buehler: Our ace who really turned it on during the playoffs, sharing his journey back after two Tommy John surgeries.
- Freddie Freeman: Discussing his shift away from routine and how he got his groove back during the playoffs.
- Max Muncy: He believes the Padres were the toughest competition we faced all season.
- Chris Taylor: Talked about how our team thrived off the negative energy from the Yankees.
Walker's Postseason Performance
First off, let’s talk about Walker Buehler. Walker, your postseason performance was stellar! Can you take us through your mindset this year?
Walker Buehler: This year was tough for me mentally, going through two elbow surgeries. But when the lights turned on in the playoffs, I felt an energy that pushed me. I had 35 guys counting on me, and it was exhilarating stepping up for them.
It’s incredible to hear how that pressure drives you. And speaking of stepping up, Walker, can you recount the moment you told our pitching coach Mark Prior you were ready to pitch the 9th inning of Game 5?
Walker: I might’ve lied a bit about my warm-ups, but all I wanted was the chance to help the team win.
Freddie’s Unconventional Approach
Freddie, you had quite the journey this postseason. Can you share how you adapted when you had to abandon your usual routine?
Freddie Freeman: It was bizarre! I couldn't stick to my regular pre-game rituals due to my injury, and I had to focus solely on getting healthy. Thankfully, after some time off, I felt I finally got my swing back!
It was fun to see you hit that game-winning hit! You certainly made an impact in that fifth inning of the World Series.
Max Muncy on the Padres Series
Max, you've mentioned that the Padres were our toughest challenge this year. What made that series so intense?
Max Muncy: They were incredibly talented and hungry for wins. Every game felt like a battle, especially given our past postseason struggles against them.
It was definitely a series for the history books. One that really tested our resolve!
Chris Taylor's Energy Play
Chris, your role in igniting our team’s energy can’t be understated. You could feel the momentum shifting in pivotal moments, right?
Chris Taylor: Absolutely! Sometimes it’s about boosting the guys around you. Even in the dugout, we needed to maintain that positive energy, especially when we were down in the fifth inning.
Team Chemistry Leads to Victory
The bond we formed as a team this postseason was like nothing else. Everyone contributed selflessly, and that camaraderie resonates deeply. We believed in each other and stayed focused on our goal: winning the World Series!
- We all played our roles, whether it was as a starter, reliever, or off the bench.
- Team dinners and workouts brought us closer, strengthening our trust in one another.
Looking back, all that effort culminated in celebration after winning the World Series! It’s moments like these that remind you why we play this game.
Final Thoughts
I want to thank all my teammates for this incredible journey. It's been one for the books, and I'm thrilled we could share it together. Let's keep this momentum going as we strive for back-to-back championships!
