5 SEO Techniques (That Work 99% of the Time)

Are you eager to boost your SEO game? Look no further! In this article, we're diving into five of my favorite SEO techniques that have led to remarkable results. My name is Nathan Gotch, the founder of Got SEO Academy, and I'm thrilled to share these strategies with you.

Let's jump right into technique number one: the Merger Technique! This strategy has been my secret weapon since 2015, allowing me to dominate SEO competitions across various niches.

The Merger Technique involves taking a relevant dead business and merging it into your own through a 301 redirect. When executed correctly, this method can significantly elevate your website's authority and trust, making it easier to rank for essential keywords.

Here’s how to execute the merger technique effectively:

  1. Find Opportunities
    • Use a tool like SpamZilla.
    • Integrate Ahrefs and set appropriate filters. Uncheck all country TLDs that aren't relevant to your location.
    • Research drop domains marked as available for registration.
  2. Vet the Domains
    • Focus on relevant link profiles using Majestic’s topical trust flow metrics in SpamZilla.
    • Examine the link profile for high-quality backlinks; avoid domains with spammy links.
    • Check the anchor text to ensure a mix of branded and unoptimized terms.
    • Review the domain’s history to ensure it hasn't been used for spam.
    • Confirm if the domain is indexed in Google.
  3. Execute the Merger
    • Secure dedicated hosting for better control over redirects.
    • Map out backlinks for the old URLs and set relevant new URLs.
    • If necessary, create new content to support your links.
    • Implement redirects on a page-by-page basis using a suitable WordPress plugin.
    • Be patient, as the effects can take up to six months.

Technique Number Two: Leveraging AI to uncover untapped SEO content opportunities.

Use ChatGPT to analyze your performance in Google Search Console. Locate keywords that rank beyond position 50—these represent clustering opportunities where the current pages might not be optimized for these keywords.

Technique Three: The Reverse Silo technique. This method prioritizes link acquisition. Direct backlinks to content assets, which will flow link equity to important internal pages that may lack direct backlinks.

Example: Candy Funhouse created a Chief Candy Officer role, which attracted numerous backlinks, boosting their site's authority significantly.

Technique Four: Utilize AI to create link bait content effectively. By identifying free tools your competitors use, you can generate appealing, shareable content designed to acquire backlinks.

Technique Five: Fixing keyword cannibalization. This issue arises when multiple pages target the same keywords, confusing search engines. To resolve this:

  1. Inspect fluctuating ranking positions and ever-changing URLs using Google Search Console and Ahrefs.
  2. Consolidate content targeting similar keywords onto a single, optimized page while ensuring you target one primary keyword phrase per page.
